Not Games: We Are the Strange

I stumbled across this trailer while trolling YouTube for Borat and Japanese game shows.

We are the Strange appears to be a home-grown animated feature with more than a few video game influences. The official site pitches the flick as "Monsters, Inc. meets The Nightmare Before Christmas inside a retro Japanese video game." If that's not enough to sell you, how about chiptunes from Noboru Morishige, Snoopdroop, Rushjet1, TSR, Nullsleep, dotdUmmy, Anonymouse and M dot Strange on the soundtrack? Does the involvement of comic book artist/painter David Choe further intrigue you? If the "I hunger!" sample from Sinistar that I heard in the trailer doesn't do it for you maybe we should spend some time apart.

New Review

My review for 50 Cent: Bulletproof, G-Unit Edition is up at G4TV's website. Don't tell my editors, but I'm sorta enjoying playing these bad games every so often. Going elbow deep into a really shitty game like this one is a good way get better at eagle eyeing the crap elements in mediocre or almost-great games.

My favorite part of this review, though, is that I got to throw in a backhanded comment about how shitty The Sorpanos has gotten. I love having a soapbox.

Limbo

Platform: Unknown
Publisher: Unknown
Review Type: Looky
Version: Trailer

Limbo
appears to be a one man show. And that man is Art Jensen, a designer who, according to Moby Games, worked on Freedom Fighters and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.

This teaser clip you'll be watching in a second is shot in a moody, film-like black and white. Ambient audio creates an atmosphere that conjures flashbacks to the first Tomb Raider. Remember when it was just you and Laura in the solitude of an ancient temple? Limbo's setting is slightly creepier, stranding you in the dark with a little boy and a giant saw blade.
